TL;DR: Your Life Path Number is the core number of your numerology chart, calculated from your birth date by reducing the month, day and year separately, then adding the results. It ranges from 1–9, or the Master Numbers 11, 22 and 33 — which are never reduced. Enter your birth date in the calculator above for an instant result with its full meaning.
How to Calculate Your Life Path Number (Step-by-Step)
Your Life Path Number is calculated from your full date of birth using the Pythagorean component method — the method professional numerologists use. Each part of your birth date (month, day, year) is reduced separately before being added together. This matters, because it is the only way to correctly detect Master Numbers.
1Reduce your birth month. January = 1 through September = 9. October (10) becomes 1 + 0 = 1, December (12) becomes 1 + 2 = 3. November stays as 11 — it is a Master Number and is never reduced.
2Reduce your birth day. The 14th becomes 1 + 4 = 5, the 29th becomes 2 + 9 = 11 (kept as 11). The 11th and 22nd stay as they are — Master Numbers are preserved.
3Reduce your birth year, then add all three. 1984 becomes 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 22 (kept — Master Number). Add month + day + year results, then reduce the total one final time, again preserving 11, 22 and 33.
Worked example: July 22, 2007
Month: July = 7. Day: the 22nd is a Master Number, so it stays as 22. Year: 2 + 0 + 0 + 7 = 9. Now add them: 7 + 22 + 9 = 38, and 3 + 8 = 11 — Master Number 11.
Notice what happens if you use the shortcut many websites use — adding every digit in a row (7 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 7 = 20 → 2): you would get Life Path 2 and completely miss the Master Number 11. Same birthday, two different answers — and only one of them is correct.
Master Numbers 11, 22, 33 — Why Many Calculators Get Them Wrong
Master Numbers carry the traits of their reduced base number (11→2, 22→4, 33→6) plus an intensified, higher-octave expression. Because they only appear when the calculation is done component-by-component, a calculator that simply sums all digits in your birth date will frequently miss them — or invent them where they don't exist.
| Birth date | Digit-sum shortcut (common) | Component method (correct) |
|---|---|---|
| July 22, 2007 | Life Path 2 | Life Path 11 (Master) |
| November 2, 1969 | Life Path 11 | Life Path 2 — the 11 here is a false positive |
| February 22, 2016 | Life Path 6 | Life Path 33 (Master) — 2 + 22 + 9 = 33 |
This calculator reduces month, day and year separately and preserves 11, 22 and 33 at every stage — including in the year (e.g., 1984 → 22) and in the final sum. If another site gave you a different number, this is almost certainly why. Read the full guides: Life Path 11, Life Path 22, Life Path 33.

Life Path Calculator FAQ
Why do different calculators give me different Life Path Numbers?
Because they use different reduction methods. Many sites add every digit of your birth date in one long row, which can miss real Master Numbers or create false ones. The correct Pythagorean method reduces month, day and year separately, preserving 11, 22 and 33 at each step — that's the method this calculator uses.
What are Master Numbers 11, 22 and 33?
They are the three double-digit numbers that are never reduced in numerology. Each carries the traits of its base number (11→2, 22→4, 33→6) plus an intensified, higher-purpose expression: 11 the Spiritual Messenger, 22 the Master Builder, 33 the Master Teacher.
Can my Life Path Number ever change?
No. It is fixed at birth because it comes from your date of birth. What changes over time is how you express it — its strengths and challenges show up differently at different stages of life.
Does the date format (DD/MM or MM/DD) affect the result?
No. As long as the day, month and year are identified correctly, the format makes no difference — the same three components are reduced either way.
What's the difference between Life Path and Destiny Number?
Your Life Path comes from your birth date and describes your life's central theme and lessons. Your Destiny (Expression) Number comes from your full birth name and describes your talents and how you express them. You can calculate both together with our full numerology calculator.
Is a Master Number Life Path better than a single digit?
No path is better than another. Master Numbers carry higher potential but also higher inner tension and harder lessons — many people with 11, 22 or 33 describe their path as demanding rather than lucky. Every Life Path has its own form of mastery.
